Multi-Genre Reseach Essays (MGREs)

Research, argumentation, and synthesis are the cornerstone skills that students need to learn in order to thrive in college.

For this assignment, you will use your skills to summarize, analyze, and synthesize sources to create a multi-genre essay (MGRE). This assignment asks you to write a 5-7 page (1600-2200 word) multi-genre research essay that investigates a particular social problem/issue of your choice, preferably one that affects our Ouachita campus or larger local community (Arkadelphia and surrounding areas or Clark County).

Category A

Students will need to choose two genres (of at least two balanced sources each) from the following list (Category A), with sources being at least 700 words.

  • Interview conducted by someone else, not you

  • Scientific report
  • Press release
  • Editorial

Category B

Students will need to choose at least 1 genre (at least two balanced sources) from Category B, with sources being 250-700 words.
